From the man page, axel is a program that downloads a file from a FTP or HTTP server through multiple connection, each connection downloads its own part of the file.

Unlike most other programs, Axel downloads all the data directly to the destination file, using one single thread. It just saves some time at the end because the program doesn’t have to concatenate all the downloaded parts.

The following is an example of using axel to download a Linux kernel;

$ axel http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.2/linux-2.2.26.tar.bz2
Initializing download: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.2/linux-2.2.26.tar.bz2
File size: 15754692 bytes

It accept the following options;

--max-speed=x           -s x    Specify maximum speed (bytes per second)
--num-connections=x     -n x    Specify maximum number of connections
--output=f              -o f    Specify local output file
--search[=x]            -S [x]  Search for mirrors and download from x servers
--no-proxy              -N      Just don't use any proxy server
--quiet                 -q      Leave stdout alone
--verbose               -v      More status information
--alternate             -a      Alternate progress indicator

Display Wiki Page is a DokuWiki plugin that enables embedding of a wiki page in anywhere of your site from the template. The following is an example as used in the sidebar of this site to display the category page.

If you noticed, there’s and Edit link at the end of the page. While this is convenient, you might not want that to appear for some reason.

To remove it, go to you DokuWiki’s installation directory, and edit this file.

In there, comment out the following line.

After saving the file, the Edit link should no longer appear at the bottom of the page.

You need to enable either the SQLite or PDO_SQLite extension for the profiler to run properly.

sudo apt-get install php5-sqlite

restart apache

SSH is by default configured to allow password login. You can disable password authentication if you’re in favour of public key authentication by following these steps;

1. Set PasswordAuthentication to no in /etc/ssh/sshd_config

   PasswordAuthentication no

A network switch doesn’t foward packets to everyone in the network the same way as a network hub do, and so theoretically a person in the network cannot look at other person’s traffic. There are ways however to get through this problem, which is by performing arp spoofing.

tar.bz2 is normally the default extension for bzip2-compressed tar archive. bzip2 compression produces smaller files but requires higher CPU power to compress and extract compared to most other compression algorithms.

You can extract tar.bz2 files using tar command which is included by default in all major Linux distribtions.;

The following example will extract the file to your current directory;

tar xf /path/to/filename.tar.bz2

To extract the file to other directory, use the -C option as the following;

tar xjf /path/to/filename.tar.bz2 -C /path/to/target

Placing AdSense ad unit in blogs is generally the same with placing AdSense ad unit in other sites, which is to focus on places where visitor’s eyes linger the most, though is a bit more difficult. SSH and PuTTY keys are of different formats and will have to be converted to each other’s format if you want to use the same key between the 2 programs. Follow these steps to convert SSH‘s key to PuTTY‘s.

1. Download PuTTY Key Generator (puttygen.exe) from the following URL.

   https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/latest.html

2. Launch the program and click on the Load button.
   
3. Set the Files of type to All Files (*.*) and select your SSH‘s key file.
   
4. Enter your key’s passphrase if prompted.
   
5. A prompt will pop up once conversion is successful. Click on Save private key.
   
6. Choose the filename and folder to save the file to.
   

You’ll get the following error in Raspbian when locale is not properly set.

-bash: warning: setlocale: LC_ALL: cannot change locale (en_US.UTF-8)

You can easily fix this via Raspberry Pi Software Configuration Tool (raspi-config) as in the following example;

1. Run raspi-config from the command line.

   sudo raspi-config

2. Choose Localisation Options from the main interface.
   
3. Choose Change Locale from the menu.
   
4. De-select locales that you don’t need (optional). en_GB.UTF-8 UTF-8 is installed by default and could be removed.
   
5. Select en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8 from the list and press Ok.
   
6. Select en_US.UTF-8 in the next screen
   
7. The selected locales will be generated and you should no longer get the error.

   Generating locales (this might take a while)...
     en_US.UTF-8... done
   Generation complete.
