How to show the Bookmarks Bar in Google Chrome

Bookmarks Bar is a very useful feature of Google Chrome to easily navigate and manage bookmarks for Google Chrome. It is however not shown by default. by default. You can show it by following any of these methods;

  1. Enable Always Show Bookmarks Bar from the View menu.
  2. Click on the Tools icon on the far right of the program, and navigate to BookmarksShow Bookmarks Bar.
  3. Use keyboard shortcut by pressing Command, Shift and b in macOS or Ctrl, Shift and b in other platforms.

How to hide system title bar for Chromium in Kubuntu / KDE

Kubuntu and any KDE based distribution in general uses system title bar for Chromium by default. It seems redundant and take up precious screen real estate.

It can be disabled with these simple steps;

  1. Open Settings by selecting Settings from the hamburger menu on the top right of Chromium window.
  2. Search for Use system title bar and borders in the Appearance section.
  3. Toggle the option and you’re done.

How to disable the translate bar in Google Chrome

Google Chrome will offer to translate websites to English by automatically popping up the translate bar on non-English websites.

You’ll have the options to;

  1. Always translate the particular language
  2. Never translate the particular language
  3. Never translate the particular site

You can completely disable this feature if that’s not your preference by following these steps;

  1. Open Chrome‘s Setting page by going to chrome://settings from the URL bar.
  2. Go to Advanced section at the end of the page.
  3. Look for Languages and unfold the options .
  4. Disable Offer to translate pages that aren't in a language you read at the bottom of the section.

How to change proxy setting in Google Chrome

Google Chrome is by default set to directly connect to the Internet. You can configure it to connect through a proxy by following these steps;

  1. Open Chrome‘s Setting page by going to chrome://settings from the URL bar
  2. Go to the bottom of the page and click Advanced
  3. Scroll down till you come to the System section and click on Open proxy settings to configure your proxy

    Proxy management browser plugins such as FoxyProxy will be listed in the section if installed

  4. This will open your system’s proxy configuration page and is different between operating systems. Below are examples for macOS and GNOME 2 (Linux)

  5. Configure your proxy accordingly.
